As you might have guess by my
background design, I have had a lot of second thoughts about placing this page
here. No, I have nothing to hide, except maybe.... my shyness. Not sure if I
am ready to come out of the cyber closet yet - so to speak.
Well, I should start by telling
you I have been online long before it became a household word. I work in the
computer industry doing what I could only describe as this and that. I would
love get up on my soapbox and give you the low down on how all the new
Internet traffic has NOT always changed things for the better -
instead... I will just say, it's sure nice having all you people here.
What I am here to say ( which is
in no way meant to make light of the need to protect yourself and your
children here online ) is that I think it's kinds of silly to debate how real
the relationships are you make online. After all the people you have them with
are very real. Who's to say you wont meet an occasional phony or con-artist in
real life.
Besides, I believe
there is something quite unique happening at the masquerade. Kind of a safe
place and a fresh start on expressing who we really are and how we want to be
known. A way to get out from under any prejudice and preconceive ideas we
might have of others. If your lucky you'll get to know some individuals here
you might not otherwise approach. It always amazes me how similar we all are
when you put aside the way we dress , the way we sound and the way we look.
Just maybe, in some ways, the people we meet in the "online world" are more
real then in the ones we meet in the so called "real world".
If your finding it difficult to
communicate here online... it may be your still trying to use old tools to
interact. Things like body Language, eye contact and voice reflection don't
exist here. What we do have is our words, our art and our actions. Maybe (
given this great opportunity to reach out to each other ) that will be enough
to bring us closer together.
